NEW MERCEDES BENZ ZETROS TRUCKS FOR THE DEFENSE SECTOR ARE OUT
For 2025, the new vehicles delivered by Mercedes are coming out for the Ministry of Defense, namely the renewed Zetros, an old brand created in 2008 when it was presented for the first time to give its service to the defense sector.
These days there is a lot of talk about the arms race and increasing defense spending and unfortunately it is an inevitable consequence of the changed world scenarios that require each country to do its part to defend its borders from possible attacks or invasions from any type of enemy that wants to disturb the world balance.
The renewed Zetros is part of a policy already oriented towards increasing defense spending with the introduction of new variants to better respond to customer needs in a more widespread way. In particular, the new vehicle has been designed for use in conditions of extreme heat and in dusty and sandy areas, because although normally used as a truck, the Zetros is normally used as an off-road tractor.
It is a vehicle with a bonnet, whose driver´s cabin is positioned behind the front axle to ensure a low overall height, a significant reduction in vibrations and greater driving safety and higher speeds on, as we said, unpaved terrain.
The Zetros is equipped with a six-cylinder in-line OM 460 diesel engine and is suitable for operation with NATO F-34 fuel.
Also as a tractor in semi-trailer version it can tow gross vehicle weights of up to 120 tonnes and can perform the most diverse transport tasks.
There is also another version of the Zetros, the 2036 A 4x4 model with a 265 kW (360 HP) Euro III engine. The chassis is equipped with a Mercedes-Benz G 260-16 / 11.7-0.69 transmission with double-disc clutch and the compact dimensions of 8,840 millimetres in length, 2,550 millimetres in width and 3,560 millimetres in height and the relatively short wheelbase of 5,100 millimetres make the truck relatively manoeuvrable.
